Bakkhos guesthouse is a perfect base for those interested in the numerous
archaeological sites such as Ephesus, with its museum in Selcuk next to the
St. Jean church, the temple of Artemis (one of the 7 world wonders), and the
caves of the 7 sleepers, Priene, Didyma, Miletos and more. You can book an
organised tour or you can take one of the excellent guide books and design
your own. There are also a few
others less known archaeological sites like Klaros, Notion, Herakleia next
to Bafa
Lake with its beautiful landscape, Labranda, the apollo-temple of
Euromos, Belevi Mausoleum, Teos or interesting places like Birgi in
Bozdağ-mountains and Tire, with a traditional market with old handicrafts,
which are also worth a visit, maybe even more so , because they are
untouched by the normal tourist groups.
The House
of Virgin Mary, close to the ancient city of Ephese, which is again
been visited by the Pope is officially recognised as the last home of Mary,
the mother of Jesus. This is where she fled to, after the crucifixion of
Christ.

The old quarters of the
town of Kusadasi, and Selcuk are worth a stroll around. Sirince, a lovely
little unspoilt village(with old Greek houses and a church) nestling in the
hills above Selcuk is also worth a visit. Here the local women display their
craftwork, such as cushion covers, tablecloths but also fresh olive-oil,
olives and dried herbs to sell. Also they have their Sirince wine, which you
can taste in some local places.
Another old Greek village, but less touristic is Doganbey(Domatia)
 |
It has a history which goes back to the ancient times. The village contains
original historical buildings, a chapel and a church. They are demonstrating
the most beautiful examples of Turkish and Greek architecture carrying the
traces of past civilizations. The parcels in the village were assigned to
National Parks of Turkey and they since 2001 they began to restore the
village in accordance to its original plan.
In its near environment there is the Karina with its old customs houses,
where you can have on the sea-side a lovely fresh fish.
There are numerous
beaches in kusadasi, only 4 km from us(5 min. on wheels), or if you want
more seclusion from the normal tourist spots there is a little known beach
of Pamucak which is about 7 km away from us(10 min. on wheels)
The National Nature reserve park called National Park (Dilek Yarimadasi) has a
fantastic beach with such a clear blue sea it must be visited. For those
more energetic among you the hike up the Canyon is well worth the effort for
the reward of the spectacular views once you reach the top.
This nature reserve is served by the very efficient public transport system
Turkey has ( the ‘dolmus’) or is only 25 minutes in a taxi/car.
For those sports minded among you there are many activities on offer- deep
sea diving, course for beginners or organised dives for the more
experienced, all kinds of watersports, boat-trips to surrounding areas,
jeep- and horse safari’s to experience the local environment.
Or why don’t you try once ,the turkish bath(hamam)? It makes you relaxed and
if you wish you can have an extra oil-massage too.
There are 2 massive waterparks which cater for the youngest to oldest of you
and with slides that will satisfy even the most avid of thrill-seekers among
you.
The weekly markets of
nearby Kusadasi, Soke, and Selcuk are well worth a visit. They sell
everything from fresh vegetables/fruit to clothes, footwear, kitchen
accessories, spices etc. A must for bargain lovers. It is nice to spend
nearly a whole day in these markets, attempting to capture the ambiance
which is alive with energy, colour and Turkish people shouting their wears
and still wearing traditional clothing.

For people who wish, Kusadasi is buzzing with night-life, restaurants, bars,
disco’s , live music and all the shops are open whole day until late at
night.
The advantage we have at Bakkhos is being so near to so many opportunities
and activities but still being able to offer you seclusion, in the peace of
the nature, so you can choose each day and each evening whether to join the
world or retreat from it.
We are only 4 kms(4/5 min. on wheels) from Kusadasi city centre and 20 kms
(20 min. on wheels ) from Selcuk.
The dolmus-busses are also passing by our estate every 10 minutes (there are
2 different lines) We also have our own taxi-service reasonable priced. In
addition mopeds/scooters or cars can be hired.
All of this we can help you with, remember we are here to ensure that you
have a lovely time here with us. We are happy to do all the work and
organisation for you.
